Okra, located on two levels
on the corner of 10th Zamzama Street, is an open, inviting and
informal restaurant offering a fine dining experience.
Starting out as a take-away for Pakistani food with a
difference, owner Ayaz Khan infused the menu and the
decor with a strong Mediterranean flavor and opened Okra's
doors to dinner in the summer of 1999. Pakistani dishes remain on
the lunch menu for regulars at Table 1 on Saturdays.
Inspired by the casual and
simple elegance of Okra's setting and using the finest products
available, Ayaz Khan has created a menu that is light and
flavorful with the use of spices and aromatic herbs.
Influenced by the tastes and textures of the Mediterranean
countries, the menu consists of simple bistro classics with a
twist. Serving up a mix of fruit and seafood, perfectly cooked
meats with delicate sauces, crisp salads garnished with
specialty olive oils, pasta done al dente and risotto cooked
to perfection, keep the Okra regulars coming back for more.
Constantly experimenting with
new recipes and to make sure his patrons enjoy new gourmet
experiences, Ayaz changes the menu regularly and often
includes recipes provided by his customers.
In addition to the ears of corn
and whole garlic adorning the wall, there are rows of specialty
olive oils from different regions of the Mediterranean. Some
of the regulars have there own bottles and Ayaz Khan
encourages his customers to sample the different oils, using
them as dipping for the many different types of breads that
emerge from the Okra kitchen.
Apart from the food, what
sets Okra apart from other restaurants in Pakistan is its
staff and impeccable service. Efficient and courteous, most of
the staff have been with Okra since inception.
Cleanliness is given the most
important attention at Okra and there is no compromise on hygiene and
training of staff on standards of food handling and service.
The kitchen and all surrounding areas are maintained in the most
impeccable condition at all times. A kitchen which can be
shown just as proudly as the elegantly decorated dining room.
